International refund request form

SFU has partnered with Flywire to wire-transfer refunds for students residing outside of Canada.

Please note:

  • This refund method is reserved for students residing outside of Canada who have a credit balance on their student account.
  • You may receive a refund in your local currency or another currency that meets the country-specific corridor requirements.
  • The bank account details submitted will only be active for one term. You will need to set them up again for each subsequent term.
  • The expected delivery time of funds is approximately 15-20 business days from the date this form is submitted, excluding statutory holidays and unforeseen circumstances. Some payments may take longer than expected, depending on the destination country. Delivery times are subject to change at any time.
  • If your refund cannot be delivered due to invalid bank account information, the payment will remain with Flywire securely. Flywire will contact you and provide you with the option to submit new banking information. Resending the returned funds may be subject to fees and foreign exchange conversion.
  • Flywire charges a service fee (CAD $1.25 to $25) to process your refund. SFU will waive this fee if your visa is denied or your application is revoked. In some countries, you may be charged additional fees. Please refer to the Flywire's Corridor Tables below. This list is subject to change without notice.
  • Your Student Number, Last Name, First Name, SFU email address, and Bank Information are stored in Canada and regulated by Fintrac.
  • Once we receive your request, you will receive an email from student_accounts@sfu.ca with further details on what to expect next.
  • We will only correspond with your SFU email.
  • This form is processed weekly with a submission cut-off on Mondays, excluding campus closure and statutory holidays.
  • In accordance with SFU’s Trade Control Policy (GP 45), no payment will be permitted to a sanctioned country identified by the Government of Canada. If you reside in a country where Canada has current sanctions imposed, your refund request will be denied.
