Arriving in a new country and university can be an overwhelming experience.

This group provides students from international pathways with practical skills that will support their growth and success during their time at SFU.

Spring 2020 Group Dates & Topics 

January 14 - Time Management and Procrastination

Improve your time management skills by learning how to work efficiently and stop procrastinating. 

January 21 - Medical Systems

Understand the medical system and different insurance plans (i.e. GuardMe, MSP, SFSS Health and Dental Plan). 

January 28 - Intercultural Communication

Learn how to communicate effectively with people from different backgrounds and how to talk so people listen.

February 4 - Stress Management and Self Care

Learn how to tackle stressful situations and how to incorporate self-care into your routine to prevent burnout. 

February 11 - Finances and Taxes

Learn how to manage your money well, budget, and everything about taxes.

February 25 - Leadership

Determine your leadership style and understand the skill sets you’ll need to become an effective leader.

Meet others, share resources, and gain knowledge.

A peer facilitator, who may have similar experiences with transitioning to SFU and Canada, will assist in presenting a topic each week. Participants can expect this group to be very interactive, where participants will engage with each other through different activities and discussions.
