Senior Community Leaders

Nick

Hi everyone! I'm really excited to be part of the Global Connections Program again this year. I came to Canada two years ago, and to be honest, the Program has helped me out a lot since then. I got to know more new people, more connections, and sought a lot of advice from them in both of my academic studies and in my life. Sounds interesting? Curious about this? If yes, I would love to see you soon. I hope that the Program can help the SFU incoming students, as much as we can!

Ekin

Hello all! My name is Zeynep Ekin. I am in my fourth year, majoring in Criminology and minoring in Psychology. The Global Connections Program truly made my university life! It gave me an opportunity to share my experiences with others, to meet people from all over the world, to learn about different cultures, and to explore Lower Mainland! I look forward to virtually meeting you in Spring 2021!

Ramy

Hi! My name is Ramy and I study Mechatronics Engineering. I enjoy travelling, photography, nature, and watching movies.  I also enjoy meeting new people, so please don't hesitate to say Hi! Looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Kirat

Hi everyone! I am a third year Political Science student and I am thrilled to be a mentor with the Global Connections Program. I hope to extend my support through sharing my own experiences and challenges, as well as help foster a sense of community among students new to SFU.

Nelly

Hello everyone! I am a 4th year Biomedical Physiology major. I love SFU because it's such a diverse community. Through the Global Connections Program I've been able to meet so many new people from different backgrounds and experience many new things on and off campus. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Community Leaders

Zaena

Hey there! I'm Zaena, and I'm entering my third year as Philosophy and International Studies double major. I'm a big fan of art and animation (name a Ghibli film and I've probably seen it). I can't wait to meet you all! Finding your groove at anyplace new can be challenging, so if you have any questions, ask away!

Christina

Hello everyone! My name is Christina and I am a second-year biological science major at SFU. I still clearly remember my first few months at SFU, and by getting involved in SFU's community and meeting new people, it made the transition a lot easier. That's what inspired me to sign up to become a Community Leader and help you have an amazing experience as well :)

Jaskaren

Hi everyone! My name is Jaskaren and I am a 3rd year Psychology Student. I am beyond excited and grateful to be a Community Leader. Being in a new environment can definitely be overwhelming, not to mention the added stress of school, I therefore hope to eliminate any concerns or confusion any might having with being new to SFU or the Lower Mainland. I look forward to connecting with and meeting you all!

Edgard

Hey everyone! My name is Edgard and I am a fourth-year beedie student from El Salvador concentrating in Finance and Entrepreneurship! My greatest hobbies and interests involve traveling and music, where before the pandemic I use to travel the world just for concerts! I play and enjoy most sports but I am a special fanatic of basketball and the Dallas Mavericks. I am really passionate about seeking discomfort by meeting new people, which is why I am really excited to meet you all!

Jenna

My name is Jenna (she/her) and I am entering the second year of my double major in International Studies and Communication! I have a very wide array of hobbies and interests which include yoga, cooking/baking, exploring Vancouver, relaxing at the beach, taking on various random art projects and attending concerts and music festivals. I love to talk and love to listen so feel free to reach out to me at any time (on any platform) so we can get to know each other better! I look forward to meeting you soon.

Kristine

Hey everyone! I’m Kristine and I’m in my second year in Communication and hoping to minor in Legal Studies. I’m excited to be apart of the Global Connections Program. On my free time, I like to watch movies and tv shows! If you want some suggestions, please don’t hesitate to say hi! As an international student myself, I hope to help and support you throughout this semester. I look forward to virtually connecting with you all!

Narges

Hey all! My name is Narges and I am a second-year Communication major and hopefully a Business minor by next semester. I was born and raised in Iran and moved to Vancouver to study as an international student. I like going for a long walk or a run, listening to podcasts, and watching movies. Since March, I have picked up some cooking and baking recipes and finally passed the phase of only having mac & cheese. Looking forward to meeting you all and sharing my recipes!

Kayla

Hello, my name is Kayla. I am a fourth year student majoring in International Studies with a specialization in international security and conflict; although I am heavily interested in development studies as well. In fall 2019, I studied abroad at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England. Those five months were truly life changing for me as I was fortunate enough to explore but I also learned what it is like to be an international student and a global citizen. When I first transferred into SFU during my second year of university, I found navigating “SFU life” quite challenging.  I look forward to sharing my experiences, explore the the community and most importantly make lasting connections with incoming students or students new to Canada. Putting yourself out there can be intimidating but SFU has so much to offer, so it is worth it in the end!

Joban

Hi! My name is Joban and I am a fourth year Molecular Biology and Biochemistry major here at SFU. I am really excited to be part of the Global Connections Program and am looking forward to my time as a mentor. When I’m not on campus, I enjoy binge watching random tv shows and movies (any suggestions will be appreciated), as well as meeting new people. Can't wait to connect with you all!

Cindy

Hi! I’m Cindy, a third year student majoring in Communication with a Business minor. I’ve taken a year off from SFU to travel, work and meet new people so you can ask me all about my experience with taking time off. I love exploring/travelling, taking photos and making new friends. I’m excited to be a part of the Global Connections Community and to meet everyone soon.

Catherine

Hey everyone! My name is Catherine, and I am a third-year student in Business with a concentration in Human Resources Management. I love meeting new people and helping people; I would be so happy just knowing that I helped to make someone's day better, so feel free to reach out to me when you need emotional support or just want someone to talk to. I also love music and just art in general, so come and chat with me when you need some music recommendations! I am so excited to meet you all soon.

Kiran

Hello everyone! I go by Kiran and I'm entering my third year in Communications, hoping to minor in interactive arts. I love visual art, reading, baking and travelling amongst other hobbies that I am very excited to share with you as part of being a Community Leader. Feel free to hit me up for a chat because I know that sometimes we do feel strongly for a connection. We're all in this together, you're not alone. Looking forward to have a great time with you all.

Katie

Hi everyone! My name is Katie and I am in my third year studying Linguistics and Education. I am working towards becoming an Elementary School Teacher! I love to travel and have been to 18 countries, I would love to chat about your travel experiences as well. I'm very excited to be a Community Leader and am looking forward to meet all of you!

Carina
