STUDENT DIRECT STREAM

On January 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) announced a number of updates and measures to the International Student Program. The complete details can be found on the IRCC website on our News & Updates page.

You may be eligible to apply for your study permit through the Student Direct Stream (SDS) and receive faster processing if you are a legal resident living in one of the following countries:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • Brazil
  • China
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • India
  • Morocco
  • Pakistan
  • Peru
  • Philippines
  • Senegal
  • Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Trinidad and Tobago
  • Vietnam

Please visit the IRCC website for detailed information on the SDS along with a full list of eligibility criteria.

Note that you must be legally residing in one of the countries listed above. If you live in another country (even if you’re a citizen of one of the countries above), you will not be eligible to apply under SDS and have to apply through the regular study permit application process.

Tip: Depending on the country of residence at the time of your application, you may be required to submit additional documents. Please make sure to check your local visa office instructions by selecting the country/territory from which you will be applying for your study permit.

Paying your tuition in advance:

Tuition is calculated upon your enrolment in courses and SFU does not require you to pay your tuition in advance. See tuition deadlines and how to pay.

However, if you are applying for your study permit through the Student Direct Stream, you will be required to pay your estimated first year's tuition in advance.

Undergradaute students:

The estimated tuition fees for your first year of study at SFU is specified in the Letter of Acceptance, the 4th page of your Offer of Admission package.

Graduate students:

Please refer to the Study/Work Permit Information form which is included in your Offer of Admission from the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies office.

How to pre-pay your tuition fees?

You can make your payment through the online payment system, Flywire. Once your fees have been paid, Flywire will issue you a receipt that you can use for your SDS application.

In the event that your student visa is refused, or your admission offer is withdrawn, the funds will be returned back to the originator at the university’s discretion.

Information regarding SFU Refunds can be found here.

To make a Flywire payment to SFU, you must first log in to goSFU using your SFU Computing ID. If you do not yet have an active SFU Computing ID, please refer to the following instructions below:

Undergraduate students required to pay in advance prior to the issuance of an SFU Computing ID may temporarily log in to goSFU using their Student ID number at https://sims.erp.sfu.ca/csprd/signon.html.

Graduate students will receive an email from Graduate Studies (gradstdy@sfu.ca) with a temporary computing ID to access Flywire via its Applicant Information System at http://applicant.sfu.ca.

If you are experiencing difficulty with the payment system or have questions about how to pay, please contact SFU Student Accounts at student_accounts@sfu.ca for assistance.
