Choosing a university is a big decision. Today, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, you are faced with a variety of new challenges, and we want to help you understand what starting university will look like this year. Join us to meet current first year students who have made the transition from high school to university in the middle of the pandemic, learn how our professors have adapted to teaching online, and find out more about what your next steps will look like. We pride ourself on our sense of community and support for students –– we are excited to tell you more!

School of Mechatronic Systems Engineering

Guest Speaker: Hassan Murad, CEO & Co-founder at Intuitive AI, SFU Mechatronics Alumnus

Hassan Murad is the CEO & Co-Founder of Intuitive AI that focuses on solving the world's massive waste problem and the spread of COVID-19. His robotics background includes working on autonomous submarines, farm-mapping drones, and self-driving cars at Tesla which inspired him to develop Oscar, an AI-powered visual sorting system. Hassan has won numerous awards recognizing his leadership in innovation and was recently featured in Forbes as "Top 5 Entrepreneurs On The Rise in AI".

School of Sustainable Energy Engineering

Guest Speaker: Hansi Liu-Atkinson, Energy Manager at BC Ferries

Hansi is an environmental professional with demonstrated success in strategic program planning in climate change mitigation and energy management, focusing on systematic GHG emissions reduction and accounting. She is passionate about developing effective climate action plans that take into account lifecycle emissions and intersectionality within complex systems. Her academic research was on the role of traditional ecological knowledge in climate change adaptation in Arctic communities. She is currently the Energy Manager for BC Ferries, which has some exciting initiatives underway.

School of Engineering Science

Guest Speaker: Dr. Dan Hilbich, Microsystems Engineering Senior Firmware Engineer, Tesla, BASc. and PhD, Engineering Science (SFU)

Dan Hilbich is a Senior Firmware Engineer at Tesla Motors. He started at as an intern, moving up into a contract position, and then his current role. Self-described as having “a lifelong passion for the study of science, space, and life,” Dan completed the International Space University’s (ISU) Space Studies Program at the Florida Institute of Technology and NASA Kennedy Space Center in 2012. During his time with SFU Engineering, his research focused on novel processes and devices for use in flexible/stretchable electronics.

Let’s Talk Health Sciences

Congratulations on your offer of admission to the Faculty of Health Sciences! Our Faculty is geared towards solving human health problems that have a real impact on the world around us. You have two degree choices: a Bachelor of Arts, which helps you identify and explain the social, behavioural, and biological factors influencing health, wellness, and disease OR a Bachelor of Sciences, which helps you gain skills in cellular, molecular, and behavioural mechanisms of health and disease. As the world continues to cope with a global pandemic – compounding the need for public health professionals – it’s more important now than ever to study Health Sciences.

We’re offering three core sessions, each one covering a key topic: academic program options, student experiences, and career opportunities in Health Sciences. Each one will introduce you to our community and allow you an opportunity to meet and ask questions of our current students, staff and faculty. We’re offering each session twice to make it flexible for your schedule – drop in and find out more about joining the Faculty of Health Sciences!
