2017 Study Abroad Alumni Conference

International Services for Students is pleased to announce the fourth annual SFU Study Abroad Alumni Conference for students who have returned from an SFU Study Abroad program.

This conference will help you maximize the benefits of your international experience personally, professionally and academically.

What's happening?

The conference workshops will cover the following topics:

  • Keynote presentation by SFU exchange alumni: Jasmine Cumberland
  • Making sense of your time abroad
  • Transitioning back to home and school after living abroad
  • Marketing your international experience
  • Using your international experience for career planning

You will also be able to:

  • Connect with fellow alumni of study abroad programs
  • Enter a door prize draw to win an SFU Bookstore Gift Card


Who can attend?

This event is open to all students (and recent grads) who have participated in an SFU Study Abroad program in the last year.

If you do not meet this criteria but would like to attend please contact International Services for Students to discuss: studyabroad@sfu.ca.

Tips for the conference:

  • Pre-conference prep: Think about what you've learned from your international experience, and what other opportunities you'd like to explore.
  • Bring a notepad and pen.
  • Food/drinks: Morning refreshments will be provided to attendees.

Alumni Conference

About the Keynote

Jasmine Cumberland is the Manager, Compensation and Benefits for Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Pictures Imageworks, the award-winning visual effects and animation unit of the Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, which is headquartered in Vancouver.  Community engagement is incredibly important to Jasmine and she is currently a member of the Executive on the Simon Fraser University Alumni Association Board of Directors, a Senior Advisor to TEDxSFU and regularly volunteers with SFU events. Previously, she served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for JDC West, the largest business case competition for undergraduate business students in Western Canada.  While she was a student at SFU, Jasmine completed international exchanges to Austria and China in addition to completing an international Co-op term in Scotland.  These experiences kickstarted her love of travel - she's visited 40+ countries to date!
