Fall 2021 Courses

As we prepare for a return to campus, adjustments to course offerings, including changes to the scheduled days / times and potential section additions / cancellations may happen between now and the start of enrollment.

Schedule changes and the Course Cart

If you use the course cart in mySchedule or goSFU prior to enrolment, please review the courses in your cart before you enrol in case the course timing has changed, or a course has been canceled and removed from your cart. If you have trouble during enrollment, it may be due to changes to the course offering; you may need to remove your courses and re-add them to your cart before proceeding through the enrollment process.

In-person/remote classes

Most classes will be in-person, and the goSFU, mySchedule, or Calendar entry will indicate a building code and room number. Alternatively, some classes will be remote.

Classes with an in-person component will be noted in goSFU and on the course outline; remote classes will show the word “Remote” for the room location.

Please note

Due to a system constraint, the Delivery Method will nearly always show as “In Person”. Please pay attention as to whether a classroom has been assigned or not; this is how you can determine if a class is in fact in-person. Any in-person classes will generally have an assigned room. Some courses may also have an in-person event – for example, a one-time visit to campus during the term. That information would be more likely found in the course outline or course notes.

Remote classes: synchronous/asynchronous

Please review the class notes to find information about synchronous, asynchronous or blended format. The following are examples of where to find the synchronous, asynchronous and blended information from the goSFU class search and mySchedule class search.

Remote classes may feature a fully synchronous, or fully asynchronous, or blended format (asynchronous lecture, synchronous tutorial), and there will likely be changes before September.

  • Synchronous means that the course component takes place at a set time, and you’ll be expected to attend remotely at that time.
  • Asynchronous means that the course component is expected to be completed remotely that week at a time of your own choosing.

To avoid timing conflicts, asynchronous courses are not supposed to change to synchronous after enrollment starts. However, courses currently set as synchronous may still change to asynchronous between now and the first week of classes.

Final exams

Final exam schedules will be released in October. This timing will allow you to avoid enrollment conflicts, and will significantly reduce instances of exam hardship. See New Exam Scheduling for details.
