Alumni Feature: Meet Anita Huberman

SFU Degree(s): Bachelor of Arts - Major in Communication, Minor in European History, 1996

Anita Huberman is the CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade. She has an extensive record of community service and is a trail blazer advocating for change for business and for Surrey, at all levels of government. Anita currently serves on the Premier’s COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force, as well as the SFU President’s Advisory Council and the SFU India Advisory Council.

She served as Co-chair of the Surrey Local Immigration Partnership Committee for 6 years, and also served as a Trustee of Canada’s National Film Board for 6 years, appointed by the Federal Minister of Heritage. Anita was appointed by Canada’s Minister of Defence as an Honorary Captain of the Royal Canadian Navy, one of 30 across the country. 

Anita is a proud SFU graduate from the Class of 1996, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a Minor in European History. 

What advice do you have for SFU students going through their degree?

"I advise students to get formal work experience as you are going through your educational career. This will make a huge difference in getting the job that you want after graduation. If it takes you longer to get your degree, that is okay too! Remember success is a journey, not a destination!"
