Certified Sustainable Offices

Beyond completing the required checklist items to certify their offices, these teams have implemented additional actions to improve their workplaces:

Faculty of Communication, Art & Technology

FCAT has hosted a certified sustainable event for first-year students.  The team is enthusiastic and sees sustainability as something that comes naturally.

Payment Services

On its way to eliminating 100% of paper, the Payment Services Office has created electronic forms for SFU departments, requests electronic invoices and selects vendors based on their green practices.

Science and Environment Co-op

This team has a designated area for sharing and re-using office supplies!

Graduate Student Society

GSS has implemented sustainability into its strategic plan and switched to a sustainable investment fund from which they have seen a good rate of return!

Embark

In addition to its Food Rescue and Learning Garden, Embark has swapped its coffee machine for a French press and shares appliances with Centre for Sustainable Development to reduce energy.

Centre for Dialogue

Office members put money in a mason jar every time they bring in a disposable cup. On "Treat Thursday" the team purchases local, healthy food at the Vancouver Farmer's Market.

Department of Human Resources

HR has made SFU's Annual Benefit Statements available online and, for recruitment, resumes are no longer printed but all received by email.

Department of Physics

Shifting towards paperless, the office has a new, fully digital recruitment process and shared servers which has also encouraged better team communication.

Interfaith Centre

Encouraging sustainable transporation, the team commutes and shares parking bays, and maintains the fencing and pathways of SFU's community garden.

SFU Vancouver Administration

Van Admin has implemented a reusable, cloth coffee filter and turns the grinds into a DIY skin exfoliant.

Department of Economics

This team is involved with Embark's Learning Garden and has a sustainability committee that meets regularly to review its contributions to SFU's sustainability goals.
