100,000 Strong and Growing Quickly
In 2008, SFU’s 100,000th graduate, Krista Gerlich-Fitzgerald, crossed the convocation dais. More SFU students have graduated in the past decade than in the previous 30 years. The average graduate is now female, aged 35 or younger and living in Metro Vancouver.

Grad Grapples Olympic Gold
Alumna Carol Huynh inspired a nation when she captured Canada’s first gold medal of the Beijing Olympics Aug. 16, securing the 48-kg women’s freestyle wrestling title while her long-time mentor, SFU wrestling coach Mike Jones, watched on TV from Vancouver.

Making a World of Difference
SFU alumni selected four outstanding alumni to be honoured at an awards dinner on Feb. 19, 2009: Dr. Richard Bruskiewich – Academic Achievement, Ms. Evaleen Jaager Roy – Professional Achievement, Dr. Gabor Mate – Service to the Community, Dr. Jennifer Allen Simons – Service to the Community.
