High five for SFU pipe band
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band won its fifth world championship in Scotland on Aug. 16, placing first in the Medley and drumming events and second in the March, Strathspay and Reel event.


Green Kudos for UniverCity
The UniverCity residential community won several 2008 environmental honours, including a LivCom award backed by the United Nations Environment Programme, a Best Practices award from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. and a National Planning Excellence award from the American Planning Association.


First Nations project nets UN award
A website collaboration between Simon Fraser University and the Fraser Valley’s Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive Centre received a major international multimedia award from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).


SFU Library leads multicultural heritage project
SFU Library launched a program to preserve the history and heritage of Canada’s minority groups with a $500,000 grant from the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Canadian Culture Online program.


SFU support makes a difference
SFU’s significant support for, and research at, the Down Syndrome Research Foundation (DSRF) was recognized when the DSRF received a 2008 Partnership award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
