SFU’s Curry named top Surrey businesswoman
Joanne Curry, executive director of the Surrey campus since it opened in 2002, was singled out for top honours in the professional category at the 2010 Surrey Women in Business Awards. Curry has administrative responsibility for campus operations as well as community relations.


Surrey student wins business award
Surrey campus engineering student Ben Brown-Bentley was the Surrey Board of Trade’s 2010 Student Entrepreneur of the Year. Brown-Bentley started Adrenaline Productions two years ago. It’s an events production company specializing in all-age and late-night dance events.

 


New digital theatre at Surrey campus
Lightyear Digital Theatre (Canada) Ltd. donated equipment, software and installation services worth more than $400,000 to retrofit the Surrey campus’ 200-seat Westminster Savings Credit Union Theatre for high-definition video presentations, active 3D display and digital broadcast capabilities.


Surrey campus launches major expansion
SFU announced plans to add another 5,000 square metres of classrooms and science and research labs at the Surrey campus, using a $10-million Knowledge Infrastructure Program grant from the provincial and federal governments. Construction will be completed by 2011.


Students up in the air at Olympic celebration site
Olympic celebrators at Surrey’s Olympic Holland Park had the chance to direct the movements of a remote-controlled blimp developed by Surrey- campus students Nathan Waddington, Andrew Thong, Anna Wu and Brian Quan. The Interactive Arts and Technology (IAT) students designed the blimp to move about in response to the actions of people on the ground.
