SFU alumna among Canada's Top 2010 "Mompreneurs"
Mompreneur magazine selected alumna Shaheen Hirji, founder of Organically Hatched, as one of Canada’s top 10 ‘mompreneurs’ in the green products/services category.
Alumni duo win BCIC-New Ventures BC competition
Alumni Terry Beech and Arash Afrooze won the $123,000 BCIC-New Venture competition for their new company Hiretheworld.com, which uses an online technique called crowd-sourcing to help businesses find and employ talented workers from around the world.
LifeSciences BC Awards for Alumni Trio
Alumni Marco Marra, Steven Jones and Don Avison all won 2010 LifeSciences BC awards. Marra and Jones won the Genome BC award for Scientific Excellence for their role in developing the Michael Smith Genome Science Centre into one of the world’s most advanced centres for the development and application of genomics, bioinformatics and related technologies. Avison, most recently president of the Research Universities Council of B.C. won the Leadership award.
Two SFU alumni named to Team Canada
Softball Canada selected two Clan softball alumni, Erin Cumpstone and Melanie Matthews, to join Team Canada for the 2010 ISF XXI Women's World Championship roster in Caracas, Venezuela.
2010 Outstanding Alumni award winners
Alumni Norman Armour, BA '87, Mae Burrows, BC ’72, Jim Chu, BBA ’86 and Alan Rugman, PhD ’75 won SFU’s 2010 Outstanding Alumni awards.
Alumni and their families who attended SFU’s first Homecoming, held in October at the Burnaby campus, enjoyed activities, entertainment, food and prizes, and cheered on the Clan football team as they battled the Dixie State College Red Storm.
