According to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), 20 per cent of Canadians will personally experience mental illness in their lifetime. May 6 to 12 is CMHA’s annual Mental Health Week raising awareness of mental health and aiming to reduce the stigma of mental illness.

The following SFU experts can speak to topics related to mental health:

Neha Shivare, Education, 778-798-9202, neha_shivhare@sfu.ca

Shivare can speak to mindfulness techniques and games-oriented learning environments to deal with anxiety.

Faranak Farzan, Mechatronic Systems Engineering, ffarzan@sfu.ca (will be away at a conference Thursday/Friday but available via email)

Farzan is the Chair in Technology Innovations for Youth Addiction Recovery and Mental Health and can speak to artificial intelligence, big data and virtual reality for mental health applications and youth depression and addiction. She was recently featured in the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research’s SPARK magazine.
