Director Peter Hall discusses possible federal move toward further privatization of port authorities

Program director Peter Hall, who studies ports and port cities, recently spoke with DeSmog Canada about the federal government's November announcement that it has hired Morgan Stanley Canada to advise it on "the feasibility and viability of adopting a share-capital structure for Canada Port Authorities.”

This possible shift towards further privatization of federal port authorities is grounds for concern, Hall said. "Privatizing them would go against everything that we know about the way ports operate in such a huge country....This has been tried around the world and it hasn’t been very helpful.”
