Director Peter Hall speaks at the 15th World Conference on Cities and Ports
October 13, 2016
Professor Peter Hall, director of the Urban Studies Program, was in Rotterdam last week to present at the 15th World Conference on Cities and Ports. He spoke on joint planning strategies for waterfronts, advocating for planning across conceptual divides:
"Waterfronts are seemingly places of duality – land-water, work-leisure, industry-nature, global-local, even port-city. If we think about waterfronts this way, then planning will serve merely to further separate and divide. Let us instead imagine what it means to plan, across these divides, for waterfronts that are complex, beautiful and never complete."
