Professor Anthony Perl comments on Province's plan to replace Massey tunnel with 10-lane bridge

December 17, 2015

Professor Anthony Perl was interviewed on CBC Radio's On the Coast program today regarding the provincial government's announcement on the replacement of the Massey tunnel with a 10-lane bridge over the south arm of the Fraser River.

Professor Perl said the plan will create "more pavement, more lanes, more traffic and more sprawl," and is contrary to the goals just agreed to by world leaders at the COP21 Paris meeting on climate change. Perl suggested that congestion could be more promptly and effectively decreased at less cost to the environment by provincial investment in rapid transit infrastructure and retrofitting the existing tunnel.

The interview can be heard on the On the Coast podcast. It starts at 01:40:50.
