Urban Studies director warns local economy too focused on real estate

Urban Studies Program director Dr. Peter Hall, who regularly teaches graduate courses on urban economic development, is quoted in a recent story on the perils of a local economy with too much emphasis on real estate.

“The investments and the intentions of the region are being increasingly pushed into one industry,” Hall said.

"Once an industry becomes dominant, it tends to crowd out other industries. (People) don’t imagine that there’s another way to make a life.”
