Executive Director: Laurie Anderson
Dr. Laurie Anderson is the Executive Director of Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. Laurie is also an Adjunct professor in the Faculty of Education, a Lead Facilitator for SFU's Public Square, and the co-developer of SFU's popular Masters in Contemplative Inquiry and Approaches to Education. Before coming to SFU, Laurie spent 30 years in the public education system, as a teacher, principal, Director of Curriculum, Associate Superintendent and Interim Superintendent of Schools for the Vancouver Board of Education.
Laurie is a three time alumnus of SFU, completing his BEd, MA and PhD at the university. Laurie works with his colleagues to make the Vancouver campus a welcoming, inclusive and engaging place to learn, teach and connect.
Manager, Facilities Services: Mat Cocuzzi
Mat Cocuzzi is responsible for the maintenance and operations for all buildings in the SFU Vancouver portfolio. This portfolio is comprised of Harbour Centre, Centre for Dialogue, Segal Graduate School of Business, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts and 611 Alexander.
Coordinator, Communications and Engagement: Kelsie Fo
Kelsie joined SFU Vancouver in March 2017, after working in Residence Life at SFU Burnaby and in Lifelong Learning at SFU Surrey. Kelsie works closely with the Executive Director and Director, Finance and Administration on programming signature SFU Vancouver events, managing SFU Vancouver communications, and managing and supporting community engagement programming and initiatives.
Kelsie is also an alumna of SFU, completing her BA in 2010.
Director, Meeting, Events and Conferences Services: Lynda Hewitt
Lynda has worked in Meeting, Event and Conference Service for over 20 years, beginning when the Vancouver campus was just 2.5 floors in Harbour Centre. Since that time MECS has booked over 300,000 meetings, events and conferences on the Vancouver and Burnaby campuses. If you need a room on campus, please contact the Lynda and the MECS team.
What Lynda loves most about working in MECS is how dynamic her office is. The most rewarding and challenging aspect of Lynda's job is the relationships she is able to build with a multitude of people.
Head, Belzberg Library: Karen Marotz
Karen Marotz has been with SFU Vancouver since the opening of the Harbour Centre campus, starting as the Head of Belzberg Library in 1989 and developing library services, space and collections to support SFU's growing downtown presence. Her previous professional experience includes managing information services at the Vancouver Board of Trade and working in various public library systems.
Karen is also an alumna of Simon Fraser University, completing her BA and receiving the Governor General's medal as top graduate in 1979 before completing her Master of Library Science degree at UBC in 1982.
Communications and Events Assistant: Sophie Ni
Sophie joined SFU Vancouver in August 2017 and is a recent SFU Communications graduate. She assists with communications and marketing efforts, including the design and implementation of SFU Vancouver newsletters, digital signage, and website maintenance. Sophie also assists with managing SFU Vancouver’s social media channels, as well as with events hosted by the Office of the Executive Director.
Director, Finance & Administration: Claudia Wang
Claudia Wang joined SFU Vancouver in November of 2012, after working for nine years in various challenging roles at SFU's Burnaby campus. She brings a wealth of experience at the university, from managing Student Financials, to completing strategic projects and system upgrades and improvement at Student Services and Finance. Claudia provides financial leadership to the downtown campus in operating, revenue, capital and specific purpose budgets that support the campus’ administrative programs and services (campus administration, facilities management, library, IT services, Registrar's Office, and the medical office). She is also instrumental in strategic planning, human resources support and driving new initiatives and projects in campus and community engagement to build the SFU Vancouver community.
Prior to joining SFU, Claudia worked at BMO Bank of Montreal. Claudia completed her Executive Master of Business Administration from SFU in 2012, and her Certified General Accountant designation from CGA-BC in 2010. She also holds a BBA from SFU.
Assistant Registrar: Shaughnessy Sturdy (On Maternity Leave)
Shaughnessy is currently replaced by Anne-Marie Burnside on a one-year maternity leave placement.
As the Assistant Registrar, Shaughnessy Sturdy oversees many of the student services offered at the Vancouver campus. Her team at the Registrar and Information Services office provides a wide range of services to current and prospective students, as well as alumni of the university.
Shaughnessy completed her Master of Urban Studies in 2014, with a focus on the provision of services to newcomers and immigrants. Before devoting her work full-time to SFU, Shaughnessy held positions with other post-secondary institutions and an international development organization.
