SFU Vancouver Campus Management Team
The campus management team works together to support students, faculty and staff across all the sites that make up SFU's Vancouver campus. Our collective priority is to make the Vancouver campus an inclusive, welcoming and engaging place to learn, teach, work and visit! Find out who we are and what we do below.
Executive Director: Laurie Anderson
Dr. Laurie Anderson is the Executive Director of Simon Fraser University, Vancouver. Laurie is also an Adjunct professor in the Faculty of Education, an Associate at SFU's Centre for Dialogue, and the co-developer of SFU's popular Masters in Contemplative Inquiry and Approaches to Education. Before coming to SFU, Laurie spent 30 years in the public education system, as a teacher, principal, Director of Curriculum, Associate Superintendent and Interim Superintendent of Schools for the Vancouver Board of Education. Laurie is a three-time alumnus of SFU, completing his BEd, MA and PhD at the university.
Laurie works with his colleagues to make the Vancouver campus a welcoming, inclusive and engaging place to learn, teach and connect.
Assistant Registrar: Anne-Marie Burnside
Anne-Marie and her team at the Registrar and Information Services office provide a wide range of services to current and prospective students, as well as alumni of the university and the local community.
Anne-Marie holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from SFU. She has worked at Canadian public and university libraries, in Japan as a corporate language trainer, and in Nepal as a technical advisor to a microfinance centre and a consortium of community-based forest enterprises. Before joining Vancouver Registrar and Information Services, she worked in various Student Services departments at the Burnaby campus. Anne-Marie enjoys connecting with members of the SFU community and joining them in the engagement and learning opportunities at the Vancouver campus.
Associate Director, Facilities Services: Mat Cocuzzi
Mat Cocuzzi provides leadership to the Facilities Services department across the Vancouver Campus. This includes maintenance and operations, project management and campus development, as well as oversight of campus life safety and security. The Vancouver portfolio is comprised of Harbour Centre, Harbour Centre Tower, Centre for Dialogue, Segal Graduate School of Business, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, Charles Chang Innovation Centre, 312 Main, and 611 Alexander.
Director, Meeting, Event and Conference Services: Shannon De Groot
Shannon De Groot joined SFU in October 2022 as the new director of Meeting, Event and Conference Services (MECS) at SFU. Throughout her career, Shannon has held diverse leadership positions across for-profit and nonprofit sectors globally, with her most recent role being the Director of Operations for International Conference Services (ICS) in Vancouver and she spent over a decade in The Netherlands working as the Head of Professional Development and School Delivery with the International Baccalaureate. In addition to her experience and education, Shannon brings a strong passion for collaborative leadership and organizational development to SFU. She studied at Camosun College, the University of Waterloo, and Roehampton University and holds certifications in Project Management, Adult Education, Leadership and Executive Coaching.
Coordinator, Communications and Engagement: Kelsie Fo
Kelsie joined SFU Vancouver in March 2017, after working in Residence Life at SFU Burnaby and in Lifelong Learning at SFU Surrey. Kelsie works closely with the Executive Director and Director, Campus Administration on programming signature SFU Vancouver events, managing SFU Vancouver communications, and managing and supporting community engagement programming and initiatives.
Kelsie is also an alumnus of SFU, completing her BA in 2010.
Associate Director, IT Services: Mark Jutras
Mark has worked with SFU for over thirty years. He helped officially open the Vancouver campus when it was one building, Harbour Centre. He was an active part of the growth of the SFU Vancouver campus to what is now nine buildings. Mark remembers the mint green décor of Harbour Centre, the smoking lounge, and also when the Olympics took over the downtown SFU buildings in 2010. Mark oversees Information Technology Services (ITS) which encompasses audio visual and computing services and works in partnership with the ITS Surrey and Burnaby groups. Mark enjoys camping, hiking, cycling and taking his daughter to her endless dance classes.
Head, Belzberg Library: Ebony Magnus
Ebony Magnus joined SFU Library as Head, Belzberg Library in August 2019. She oversees daily operations of the Library while supporting engagement, inclusion, and growth among students, faculty, and staff on the Vancouver campus and throughout the SFU community more broadly. Prior to joining SFU, she worked as an Assessment and User Experience Librarian at Michigan State University and at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Ebony completed her Masters of Library and Information Science at University of British Columbia in 2013. She also holds a Masters of Arts in English Literature from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Victoria.
Administrative Coordinator: Vera Shatilova
In December 2022, Vera joined the SFU Vancouver team as the new temporary Administrative Coordinator. Her primary role is to provide support to the Executive Director and the Director of Campus Administration, as well as to the President and VPs. Vera also assists with financial matters, office management, event planning and communications for SFU Vancouver.
Prior to this role, Vera was the Office Assistant in Facilities Services at the Vancouver Campus. She also previously held roles in Security as well as with BC Strata at the strata building in downtown Vancouver. Vera completed an Architectural degree in Uzbekistan and worked as a designer before moving to Canada.
Communications and Events Assistant: Kimberly To
Kimberly joined SFU Vancouver in May 2022 and assists with communications for the Vancouver campus, including graphic design, curating content for the campus newsletter, and managing social media channels. She also assists with engagement programming and initiatives.
Prior to joining SFU, Kimberly completed her BA at the University of British Columbia in 2019 and worked in the lifestyle industry in Tokyo, supporting senior marketing managers with digital marketing, market research, and brand strategy efforts.
Director, Campus Administration: Claudia Wang
Claudia Wang joined SFU Vancouver in November of 2012, after working for nine years in various roles in Student Services, Enterprise Systems and Finance at SFU's Burnaby campus. She brings a wealth of experience and deep institutional knowledge. Claudia works closely with the Executive Director and the Campus leadership team to set strategic direction for campus administration; provides key consultative, project management, budget and administrative support; and participates in strategic community engagement planning.
Prior to joining SFU, Claudia worked at BMO Bank of Montreal. Claudia completed her Executive Master of Business Administration from SFU in 2012, and her Certified General Accountant designation from CGA-BC in 2010. She also holds a BBA from SFU.
