Vancouver Speaker Series

Engaging Speakers, Engaging Communities

SFU engages the public in many ways: seminars, courses, lectures and panel discussions, as examples.  One particular way to engage the community is through bringing in experts who can share their knowledge, invite questions and generate public dialogue on topical issues relevant to society. This idea was the catalyst for the launch of the SFU Vancouver Speaker Series in 2012, a joint initiative supported by SFU Vancouver, SFU's Public Square and SFU's VanCity Office of Community Engagement. Since then thought leaders such as Gwynne Dyer, Naomi Klein, Shabina Azmi and Marina Kim have brought hundreds of community members together to learn, listen and contribute to knowledge dissemination and idea generation.
