Lecturer — Finance

The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia seeks outstanding candidates for one teaching faculty in our Finance area, beginning July 1, 2023 (Rank Lecturer).

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and leadership abilities.  The ability to supervise and guide a team of teaching assistants to ensure quality of instruction and grading consistency is also essential. Teaching experience consistent with Beedie’s Vision 2022 strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective will be prioritized. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Finance or a related field by the employment start date; however, PhD candidates with solid indication of imminent completion may also be considered.

Duties

A lecturer is expected to teach 8 course sections per year. Teaching faculty members are expected to contribute to Beedie’s teaching excellence, actively participate in Beedie’s collegial self-governance and offer assistance and guidance to students, peers and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship and experiential learning opportunities.

Lecturer — Management and Organization Studies

The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia seeks outstanding candidates for a 75% lecturer position beginning July 1, 2023.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate must excel at teaching an array of courses in the areas of human resources management (HRM) and organizational behaviour (OB). Teaching experience at an AACSB/EQUIS accredited Business School and applied work experience in a business environment are also required. Finally, the ability to supervise and guide a team of teaching assistants to ensure quality of instruction and grading consistency is essential. Teaching experience consistent with Beedie’s Vision 2022 strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective will be prioritized. The successful candidate must have a Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Business (Psychology, Industrial Relations or a closely related field), demonstrated teaching excellence in the areas of HRM and OB, and work experience in a business or academic environment. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to build industry connections for Beedie and its students.

Duties

A  lecturer at 75% is expected to teach 6 course sections per year in areas such as: Introduction to HRM, Recruitment and Selection, Employment Systems, Organizational Behaviour/Theory, and other related topics as determined by the area’s needs. Teaching faculty members are expected to contribute to Beedie’s teaching excellence, actively participate in Beedie’s collegial self-governance and offer assistance and guidance to students, peers and the academic community through activities such as committee work, mentorship and experiential learning opportunities with industry partners.

Lecturer — Undergraduate Programs

The Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University in Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, invites outstanding candidates in our Undergraduate Program, for one 50% lecturer position beginning July 1, 2023.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must: have a Juris Doctor (JD) or a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) preferably from a Canadian law school; demonstrated record of teaching excellence at the post-secondary level; excel at teaching Canadian business law, employment law and business ethics courses with experiential pedagogies to a diverse student body; and maintain profession skills through external engagement and/or have practiced law in the areas described above.

External enagement may include some or all of maintaining one’s own law practice; working as in-house counsel for private or public (for profit or non-profit) organizations; serving as director or officer on the boards of private or public organizations, or other professionally related community engagement or service.

In addition, the successful candidate should have experience coaching and providing feedback to students. Teaching experience at an AACSB/EQUIS accredited Business School is preferred. Finally, the ability to supervise and guide a team of teaching assistants to ensure quality of instruction and consistency of assessment is essential. Teaching experience consistent with Beedie School of Business’ Vision 2022 strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and global perspective will be prioritized.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to excellence in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and help guide research efforts in their areas of expertise and in connection to Beedie’s strategic priorities of innovation, social responsibility, and a global perspective. In addition to research, individuals should have experience or aptitude to contribute to Beedie’s teaching excellence through teaching either financial accounting and/or managerial accounting and/or auditing at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will also have the ability to engage with communities of practice and make an impact through their research. PhD in Accounting is required and professional accounting designation and experience teaching data analytics would be assets.

Qualifications for Assistant Professor

Candidates for the Assistant Professor position should have some record of publications in reputable journals or evidence of a strong pipeline of papers under review. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Accounting by the employment start date; however, PhD candidates with solid indication of imminent completion may be hired at the rank of Instructor and will be promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor upon completion of the PhD.

Qualifications for Associate Professor

Candidates for the Associate Professor position should have an established record of excellence in research and scholarship. The successful candidate is expected to have developed a clear program of research and be able to show prospects for future and ongoing contributions to the literature within their field. With regards to teaching, it is expected that a candidate will have demonstrated ongoing development of instructional effectiveness over a limited range of courses, as well as teaching-related contributions.

Qualification for Professor

Candidates for Full Professor should provide evidence that they have achieved of national or international reputation in their area of expertise. The rank of Full Professor is for those who have excelled in research and teaching and have demonstrated commitment to service contributions.
