Announcing our new AVPA Peter Hall
Dear colleagues,
Iām happy to let you know that Peter V. Hall is our new vice-provost and associate vice-president, academic (AVPA), effective Sept. 1, 2023.
Peter is currently a full professor in Urban Studies within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, where he teaches economic development, transportation geography and research methods.
He received his doctorate in city and regional planning from the University of California at Berkeley and previously worked in local government in Durban, South Africa. His research examines the connections between port cities, seaports and logistics, as well as community, local economic and employment development. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Transport Geography.
Peter has been at SFU since 2006. Within FASS, he has served as an associate dean and more recently, dean pro tem. Through these roles he has been responsible for strategic planning and budget, experience that will serve him well in his new role. Throughout his time at FASS, Peter has proven to be thoughtful and knowledgeable, while having the confidence of his colleagues.
He tells us he is excited to be taking on this role at a time when SFU is welcoming a new Provost, and refocusing on its academic mission.
āI look forward to promoting SFU's identity and practice as the B.C. university where all students take classes with excellent researchers."
Please join me in congratulating Peter on his new role.
Feel free to share this message with your teams.
Yours truly,
Dr. Wade Parkhouse
Provost and Vice-President Academic, pro tem
