SFU's Newest Research Chair, Ryan D'Arcy

SFU President Andrew Petter welcomed the Honourable Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Children and Family Development, to SFU Surrey where she made the announcement of the appointment of Professor Ryan D'Arcy as the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation B.C. Leadership Chair in Multimodal Technology for Healthcare Innovation.

This is one of five SFU research chairs supported by the Government of British Columbia through the Leading Edge Endowment Fund. LEEF contributed $2.5 million toward this Chair, with SFU and Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation each contributing $1.5 million. The Fraser Health Authority is developing lab space for the Chair position, and will provide assess to clinical facilities and resources at Surrey Memorial Hospital and other healthcare facilities.

Jane Adams, the President and CEO of the Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation, Nigel Murray, the President and CEO of Fraser Health, and Surrey mayor Dianne Watts were in attendance to celebrate the partnership and its promise to build capacity in medical technology innovation for the South Fraser region. Also in attendance were Martha Salcudean, the Chair of the Leading Edge Endowment Fund; John Jacobson, CEO of the BC Innovation Council; and Rowena Rizzotti, the Executive Director of Clinical Programs and Operations at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
