Research doesn’t always lead you down the expected path – and the same is true for a career in science. Yukiko started down the traditional research track, but for over 10 years has been immersed in the public communication of science through museums. She is passionate about engaging the public with accessible, current research. She will share her own path-less-travelled, and explore some of the ways science is becoming more approachable.

Yukiko Stranger-Galey is the Exhibits Manager for the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at the University of British Columbia, where she develops exhibitions that celebrate the wonder and diversity of the natural world. She holds a B.Sc. Biochemistry from the University of Edinburgh and a M.Sc. Microbiology from the University of Chicago. While working in the lab, she uncovered a passion for sharing her research and embarked on her journey communicating science to the public. The opportunity to share the stories of the people, organisms, and objects in our world inspires her every day.
