Open Labs - On Wednesday in CSIL (map)

These open labs are optional. This means that you do not have to attend the lab for which you have registered. These open labs are "TA office hours". So, feel free to go to any of these open labs whenever you have questions related to the material of this course (weekly exercises and/or assignments, etc...).

Communication tools and Emails

    • Piazza is where you can discuss with your classmates any questions you have regarding CMPT 120.
    • This term, we shall use Piazza to post questions (as opposed to emailing the TA's and the instructor). This way, everyone gets to know the answer to all questions asked.
    • Here are a few notes about Piazza:
      • Everyone in CMPT 120 (summer semester) can post a question. But before posting a question, see if this question has already been posted and answered by perusing Piazza.
      • Everyone in CMPT 120 (summer semester) is encouraged to answer posted questions.
      • TAs will be moderating Piazza.
      • Try to avoid questions like: Here is my code, it doesn't work. Help!
      • A better question would be: Hey, I'm trying to do _______ but my problem is _______. I tried doing _____, and I tried doing _____, but this is what happened ________. Here is a link to my code ________. Any ideas?
      • Bottom line: The purpose of Piazza is not to share code, but knowledge! Enjoy!
    • Used by the instructor to broadcast messages to all students registered to Cmpt 120.
    • The TA's and the instructor also receive a copy of the broadcasted message.
    • Emails are sent to your email address, for example, .
    • Used by students to send administrative type questions to the instructor.
    • Please, note that emails sent to this address will not be answered on week-ends.
    • Instructions: When sending emails...
      • In the subject line, please, include:
        • Course # + the topic of the message, for example: "Cmpt 120 - missed midterm due to illness - attached is my Official Medical Certificate"
      • In the body of your message, please, include:
        • Student name
        • Student number
        • Student account (username)
        • Course section number

      This information is needed to help the instructor respond more quickly to students emails.
