cancellation (destructive interference)

If two sound waves from different sources collide their amplitudes add or subtract where they meet.

For example if identical waves are 180º out of phase they will cancel (1 - 1 = 0) or if in phase add (1 + 1 = 2) (constructive reinforcement).
