Digital Multitrack

A device which will record audio in a digital format, usually on a magnetic tape medium.

Current industry standard is a “modular digital multitrack” or MDM called the DA88 which records 8 tracks on a specially formatted Hi 8mm video cassette.  MDMs may be linked to provide up to 64 tracks of synchronized recording. The other MDM format is called the ADAT format and uses a Super VHS video cassette.
