Editing Overview

Editing is the process of altering the raw material that has been recorded to tape or some other media such as computer memory.

In the case of magnetic tape, the editing process involves cutting and splicing techniques to remove and/or relocate the recorded material.  With digitally recorded material the editing process takes place in the virtual realm and makes use of concepts like the playlist where markers are recorded and ordered for a given soundfile and playback of the material is performed according to this organization.
