which takes a transducer signal of
0 - 100 millivolts (usually a microphone)
and amplifies it to line level (up to 10 volts).
Often a part of a mixer, occasionally may be found on recording devices such as portable cassette or DAT machines. On a mixer one engages the preamp when the line switch is off! |
