ENSC 833: PERFORMANCE OF COMMUNICATION NETWORKS

Assignment #5:

Read:
  • Kurose and Ross: Chapter 3: Transport Layer.
  • Walrand and Varaiya: Chapter 3: Packet-Switched Networks.
  • Walrand and Varaiya: Chapter 4: The Internet and TCP/IP Networks.

  • Begin working on the OPNET Tutorials.
    Run OPNET and find link to Tutorials under the Help menu. Open the Tutorial page.
    Select the appropriate tutorial from the menu located on the left-hand side of the page.
        Tutorials > Basic Tutorials > Modeler Tutorials:
        1. Introduction
        2. Small Internetworks
        3. LAN Modeling
    Note: You may have to make selections using the links located on the left-hand side of the page rather than links displayed in the main portion of the window.
    Modeler Reference material is available from the menu located on the left-hand side of the page.

  • Submit OPNET printouts illustrating the seven steps of "Tutorial 2. Small Internetworks" and the seven steps of "Tutorial 3. LAN Modeling."
    Briefly describe the main steps.
    Include time-stamps on the printouts.
    Limit your submission to ten pages (excluding the cover page).

  • Include the cover page. It should only include course title (ENSC 833: NETWORK PROTOCOLS AND PERFORMANCE), term (Spring 2016), assignment number, your full name (last name, first name), your SFU ID, and your SFU email address. This page should not be counted in the required page limit.

  • Submit the title and a short abstract describing your project.
  • Continue working on the topic for your final project.
  • Browse through past projects.
  • Collect references for your project (either a hard copy or electronic versions).
  • Please email using the plain ASCII format (text) to ljilja at cs.sfu.ca: the team number, full names (last name, first name) and email addresses of team members, project title, the abstract of your project, and the list of five references for your project.
