Characteristics of distributed denial of service attacks
An attacker may attempt to:
- “flood” a network and thus reduce a legitimate user’s bandwidth
- disrupt connections between two machines, thereby preventing access to a service
- prevent a particular individual to access a service
- disrupt service to a specific system or a user.
Their distributed formats have made these attacks more difficult to prevent.
