Yahoo! was unprepared for this magnitude of an attack, and was not ready to defend itself.
Yahoo! receives large number of visitors every day, and most likely believed that the bandwidth provided to the users by their Internet service providers would defend them against any type of denial of service attacks.
However, they did not account for a large distributed denial of service attack from numerous servers and networks across the Internet.
