Self-Similarity: intuition
Self-similarity implies a ‘‘fractal-like’’ behavior: using different time scales to examine data produces similar patterns.
Implications:
- bursts exist across many time scales
- no natural length of a burst
- traffic does not become ‘‘smoother” when aggregated (unlike Poisson traffic).
