Fractal estimators: performance

• For processes with strong LRD but weak SRD component:

  • monofractal estimator gives non-physical values of the Hurst parameter H.
  • multifractal show good agreement with the R/S estimator.
    

Example: MPEG video coders exploit the correlation of the video signal and thus weaken the SRD component.
