Conclusions
We have described PROBE, a new non-elevated service model.
We have proposed and evaluated router mechanisms employed in PROBE: BPR+ and PDD.
PROBE is able to provide proportional delay differentiation between classes.
DS class experiences proportionally lower delay than TS class, possibly at the expense of throughput.
TS class gets at least the same throughput as in best-effort.
PROBE provides all advantages of non-elevated approach :
- retains simplicity of best-effort Internet,
- can be deployed incrementally,
- does not require admission control,
- does not require differential pricing.
