Observations

• High probability of congestion at the edge of wireless network:

  • small bandwidth of wireless links

• Congestions in wireline domain

• Should be resolved with TCP’s congestion control

• Detected mostly by timeouts

  • small buffer in MHs
  • bursty traffic, bursty packet drops

• large and varying RTT in wireless links:

  • increases burstiness
  • increases the value of TCP’s RTO
