#!/usr/local/bin/php Installing LPR printers for Macs
After installing the Papercut client, the next step is to actually connect some printers.

If you have not already installed the Papercut client, this page will not be helpful, so don't waste your time.  Click here for the client install instructions.

 1. At the printer, locate the blue Konica Minolta Asset ID tag and make note of the number.

In this case, it's 01542 as in zero one five four two.

While you're there, make note of the make and model number of the printer.

2. From the Finder, go to System Preferences
3. Double-click Print and Scan
4. If the Print &Scan page is locked, double click the lock and enter suitable credentials to unlock the page.

Then click the "+" sign to add a printer.

5. Click on the IP icon.
6. Now we fill in some blanks.
  • in the Address: field, type in

       papercut4.mps.sfu.ca

    exactly as shown here.

Some installations will show the error "Invalid or incomplete address", and you can ignore this; it's just a bug in the Apple software.

  • ensure that Protocol: is set to LPD
  • for Queue:, type in the OPS number discovered in step one, including the letters Oh and Pee and Ess
  • under Name:, give it a friendly name that you'll remember
  • filling in the Location: might also be helpful to include, if you have lots of printers
  • Use: is the tricky one; you have to pick the right one and that assumes the right one is in the list.  Getting this critical step right is beyond the scope of this document.  Refer to your local support person and the Apple online docs.
  • When all is filled in correctly, click Add.

  • 7. Depending upon which options your printer has available, you may have some things to select here.

Select what's appropriate and click OK.

    8. All going well, you should see a printer!

Repeat the above as required for any additional Papercut controlled printers.

When all is done, click the lock to "seal" the settings.
