1. Begins Wednesday! Celebrating GEN: 3rd Year Anniversary Potluck
.......................................................
Dates: 6 - 24 November 2002
Moderators: Linda Harasim & Sylvia Currie

Three years ago the Global Educators' Network was launched as a TeleLearning
NCE initiative with a simple goal to provide a venue for researchers
involved in the various TeleLearning Theme projects to discuss progress.
However, this simple idea for a discussion series quickly evolved into an
international community of educators, all by word of mouth. Today GEN has
over 2,000 members from 44 countries, and we've organized over 50 free
seminars, events, and special interest groups, all moderated by volunteers.

TeleLearning NCE closed its doors in September 2002, but provided an
extension to GEN's funding to allow for some development work and to
continue our seminars to the end of the year. We are now faced with the
challenges of sustaining our unique community of educators, and ask that you
attend our Anniversary Potluck to share in the celebration of the past three
years, and to contemplate GEN's future.

What is a potluck? A traditional potluck is a meal to which each guest
brings food that is then shared by all. At this Celebrating GEN: 3rd Year
Anniversary Potluck we invite you to bring BEST moments, MEMORABLE seminars,
IMPORTANT topics, BIGGEST surprises, VALUABLE outcomes, OUTSTANDING
contributions, and IDEAS for sustaining GEN. Well, you get the idea. Bring
anything! Whether you're new to GEN, or you've been with us from the
beginning, your participation in planning for our future is important.

Beginning Wednesday, November 6, access Celebrating GEN directly:

2. Plagiarism Seminar Postponed
.......................................................

The seminar many of you have been waiting for will not take place this month
as planned. Plagiarism, with returning GEN moderator Steve Scadding, will be
rescheduled to take place in 2003. Check the GEN seminar listings for
up-to-date information <http://vu.cs.sfu.ca/vu/tlnce/PublicReg/>

3. Upcoming Seminar - Developing Online Programs: the UWI Experience
.......................................................
Date: 25 November - 15 December 2002
Moderator: Errol Miller

In this seminar Errol Miller, Director of the Institute of Education,
University of the West Indies, will share the successes and challenges of
developing an online Masters of Arts in Teacher Education degree program.

Beginning Monday, November 25, access the seminar directly:

4. Past Seminar - What BUGS you about Online Education
.......................................................
During this 2-week seminar, facilitated by Vivian Neal, we learned that we
share many of the same BUGS about online education! But we also learned that
we're just as eager to talk about the "exciting bits". Basically, as Vivian
points out, it seems to be our nature at GEN to be forward looking and
optimistic!
