According to the website below (belonging to a group that

with such campus carry legislation (that is, legislation that
makes it impossible for public universities to ban the
concealed carry of firearms on campus, although they may limit
the areas within the campus where they may be carried, such as
dorms, and the people who may carry them). An additional three
states have even more drastic campus carry laws, where anyone
has the right to carry concealed firearms anywhere on campus
and public universities have no power to limit this right...

The rationale is the same one that the pro-gun lobby in
the USA has been advancing for years... They argue that
the only thing that can keep us safe from people with guns
is if we have guns ourselves and are able to shoot back.
This, it is argued, results in deterrence. No one would
dare to open fire at a university (or movie theatre) if
they thought someone there might shoot back at them. In
many US states that allow concealed carry, they often
prohibit carrying guns into places like theatres,
restaurants, universities, etc. The pro-gun lobby sees
this as a weakness in the system that mass killers know
about, so these killers take advantage of it. Such killers
would never think of opening fire at a public park where
anyone could be carrying a gun and shoot back. They will
only shoot in those venues where they have a good chance
of getting a high body count before authorities have a
chance to respond.

Now this completely baffles me….why would you permit
students to carry guns on campus! Am I that out of touch?
