Five “Don’ts” for Introducing a Female Speaker (And Why This Matters) | Duck of Minerva

I think the eidetic truth underlying the appearance of normality here is that unintentionally we may undermine the credibility of woman colleagues as well as male or female members of visible minorities. Even people who are intentionally committed to gender/ethnic equality can easily undermine without intending that outcome. 

Perceived discrimination vs. intended discrimination - are they equal problems? The one who "didn't-intend" might argue the object is overly sensitive and this might be true. It's equally possible, however, that the perception is correct and the "didn't-intender" was insensitive in his/her remarks or actions.
