A very wise, and soon-to-retire friend sent me this note about due process and SFUFA that I'll share since I don't know the answer:
"I've been following the debate a bit, although I won't comment publicly or vote because it won't apply to me. It occurs to me however, that unless I missed more recent changes, the new forum was created as an "opt in" rather than opt out group and doesn't
reach everyone. I thought this was a bad decision at the time, but perhaps new faculty have been added automatically, so that only older sfufa members won't get this correspondence?
If forum membership does not include all eligible faculty, then I wonder whether sfufa would consider sending out a summary to the whole a-z list. Otherwise it's too bad that people have to vote without seeing this further discussion of all the issues."
