Subject: [Corporate Mapping Project] signatures still open for the letter to PM Trudeau on the oil and gas bail-out

Dear colleague,

I hope you are keeping well during this time of quarantine. Do forgive me if I have inadvertently sent this message to you twice.

The letter that we published in the National Observer on March 24th seems to have had some impact--in conjunction with the letter that was sent to the Prime Minister by about 100 civil society organizations.

Here is the link to the National Observer publication : https://www.nationalobserver.com/2020/03/25/opinion/265-academics-trudeau-no-bail-out-oil-and-gas-response-covid-19

We don't want to let up the pressure during this critical period for decision-making that will shape the post-pandemic future. With this in mind, Debra and I thought we would "re-open" (or recirculate) the letter for additional signatures. It would be terrific if we could reach 500; we're at 275 now. We'll see what we've achieved in about 10 days.

The idea is to send the Prime Minister and cabinet an "update" on support for the letter, showing that the number of signatories has "doubled" (or otherwise increased), and keeping our message about alternatives to a bail-out for oil & gas on their radar. I have seen some reports that there is strong opposition within the cabinet to the oil and gas industry's proposals (which may be why there has been no announcement after three weeks), and we want to bolster that stance as much as we can.

So, what are we asking you to do? If you have not yet signed the letter, please do. Then, please forward the link to the letter to 5-to-10 of your colleagues, inviting them to sign the statement. Signatures from academics who work in areas of energy/climate/economic research or policy debates will carry particular weight.

Here is the link to the google form for signatories (it contains a link to the letter itself):

with warm wishes,
