Hi folks, As you all know, the landscape of academic publishing is rapidly changing (open access, impact factors, expensive page charges, etc,). As an editor of a small Journal (the Journal of Ethnobiology) I am keenly interested in and concerned about the ethics of publishing (where we publish, the costs of publishing, the social science-natural science divide, who gets to do reviews, etc.). I know there are other authors and editors in our community who share some of the same concerns. Thus, I am thinking it would be informative and important to host a panel disccusion on “Ethical Publishing in Academia”. Before I get too far down a rabbit hole, I would like to gauge whether there is general interest among our faculty in participating (joining, listening to…) in such a panel. FYI, my contact at PlanS (CoalitionS) said they would be happy to participate, as have a few other faculty members. What do you think? Please respond only to me dlepofsk@sfu.ca rather than the whole group to save people’s in-boxes from overload. Warm wishes to all, Dana ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dana Lepofsky, Professor Co-Editor, Journal of Ethnobiology The Hakai Herring School The Clam Garden Network Department of Archaeology Simon Fraser University Burnaby, B.C.
