Well, no. We don't ban stairs. And in general, the vulnerable should take responsibility. Enough of not letting our kids have PB&J sandwiches for lunch just because some kid might die. My kids aren't vulnerable and should not be treated as such. And I, personally, find those beeping crosswalk signals incredibly annoying. Why should I have to listen to that just because some people have disabilities? I can see perfectly well. I am thinking of organizing a truck convoy to Ottawa in defence of my aural freedom.
Is the issue here that wearing a mask is too
much ask?
As people try to point out over and over but
others don't seem to listen: making a young triple-vaxed person
wear a mask is NOT treating them as vulnerable. The suggestion
is NOT they need it for the own protection. It is all about a
minor inconvenience to avoid killing others.

And yet we neither abolish stairs, nor force all non-wheelchair-bound people to use wheelchair ramps (much less wheelchairs). To protect the disabled in society, we do not treat the entire society as disabled.
In much the same way: to protect the vulnerable, we do not need to treat the entire society as vulnerable. And neither should we. JDF

It seems to me the antecedent question is: why "keep" mask mandates, at this point?

Subject: UBC keeping Mask Mandate, SFU is not, ( why?) and a petition now exists to change SFUs positionThe recent "Message from the Provost: Update to face coverings order" email appears to state that SFU has decided to only "encourage mask use on our campuses at this time, and particularly in spaces where we are in close proximity. " rather than keep a mandate till semester end.
This is very different than what UBC is doing after the same BC announcement: "individual organizations can choose to continue to require mask wearing on their premises. As such, UBC will continue with the current approach, requiring masks to be worn in public indoor spaces on both campuses, until … April 30, 2022. "
If you are concerned about removing the mask mandate at SFU ( in classes, meetings ,events, defences, ...) during this semester and not waiting as UBC is to the end of the semester, please feel free to discuss here
OR
as many of your students and collogues have done, feel free to sign this change.org petition, or other action you see fit.
