September 21, 2010

Hey all, just getting details sorted with Rec, so hopefully we'll have all your e-mails soon for those who signed up. Once that is delt with, you'll start getting details about events.

That all said, the AGM (annual general meeting) is October 6th. Come out, there'll be a bunch of stuff given away, a free trip to Big White, and a chance to meet all the execs/fellow members.

*Note that you HAVE to be there to win the Big White trip.

There's also a Back to School Party happening Wednesday night at the Cellar. Drop by the AQ near Renaissance/Education Building between 12:30-2:30 or 3:30-5:30 to pick up your FREE tickets. You'll be looking for a girl named Alice wearing a 'Cellar' t-shirt. Ticket is for a bus down, no cover, VIP, and a free drink.

Last but not least, we will be selling tickets for TGR's Deeper and Light the Wick. E-mail us at sfusnow@sfu.ca for details if you need a ticket.

Oh, and sign up for the club. You'll want to. We have TONS of stuff planned this year, and like usual, certain events will be free to members only.

For those who are new, sign up is at the Rec Office in the Gym. It’s $15 which is your membership and t-shirt. T-shirts will probably be ready sometime mid-Oct. You’ll get an e-mail about it though if you sign up.

September 15, 2010

Thanks to all those who came out to clubs day. The site will be undergoing an update in the upcoming week/weekend, so stay tuned for details.

January 15, 2010

Wow, it’s been a while since our last update. That said, make sure you are all checking e-mails. The Big White is pretty much finalized (other than a few people), so we’re good to go. If you’re new to the club this semester, check out the Facebook page, and hopefully we’ll be seeing you on the hill.

Hope you had a wicked break, and here’s some pictures for you all who didn’t get out.

    The end.

November 30, 2009

Tuning night tomorrow. I should be there from 6:30 pm ‘til 9:00 ish... Just bring your board/skis and we’ll hook up the rest. It’s just outside the door on the bottom floor of the gym/pool. Head out the doors toward the parking lot and go right. You’ll be in a dark concrete hallway... The door’s on the right.

That said, hope you’re all having a good wrap-up to the semester, and here’s some stoke from the execs last weekend.

    Study hard...

November 13, 2009

TIGHT & BRIGHT soirée next Thursday @ the Mountain Shadow! Show up anytime after 8:00 pm. Preferably not too late (or you might not get in).

That is all.

November 12, 2009

    Update part II:

If you want FREE tickets to the Retro ski/snowboard soirée happening at the Cellar next Wednesday, come by the pub tomorrow (Friday) between 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Steve and myself will be there by the pool table (on the left when you walk in) handing out tickets. The bus leaves for the Cellar on Wednesday at 8:45 pm from SFU. The bus is free as well, but you DO need a ticket. First come, first serve for tickets, we only have 50...

Club Aviva has been moved to the 25th of November, same time, same place. Our last outing to Club Aviva was a TON of fun, so hopefully we'll see you all out again.

Also, the abso-abos-lute last day to sign up for big white is the 25th as well. Eric from S-trip e-mailed us today and let us know. At that point, final numbers will be sent to the bus charters and hotels. Tell your friends, tell your classmates and sign up!

For those of you going up for Whistler opening, here's a few things you should know:

- Go EARLY if you haven't picked up your pass yet, there's usually a fairly big line. Don't forget your transcript/schedule

- Every Whistler local, their dog, and all the weekend warriors will be up... Go early if you want fresh tracks. By early, I mean be there before 7:30 am, I guarantee the line for the gondi will not be short.

- Big Red and Emerald will be running, Patrol did NOT do any avi control, so hiking beyond the boundary is a no-no and peak chair will not be opening, remember that it IS early season and there's still tons of rocks hiding under a thin layer of snow. It's been a pretty common thing of people putting themselves out for the season because they forget about the lack of base, please don't be one of them. If it closed, it's closed for a reason. It might look good, but I doubt you know more than the patrollers (and if you do, can we ski with you?).

- Creekside is CLOSED for the season, don't park there thinking you'll get to skip out on the giant lineup that'll be at the GLC

- If you want to ski/board with us, meet at the light-board outside the roundhouse at 10:00 am Saturday or Sunday. Look for a guy in all black (pants/jacket/helmet) with skis on, that would be me.

November 10, 2009

We have a pretty big update... So here it is.

First, it looks like the Club Aviva night is being moved. We’ve been invited out to the Cellar for...

... We have free tickets for you all, and Snowbus will be coming up to SFU to pick you all up. This FRIDAY (November 13th), come find Steve in the SFU Highland Pub from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm ish to grab your ticket. He’ll be by the pool tables. The event is Wednesday, November 18th. Dress up in retro gear to win a Seymour Pass, a pair of skis, and a ton of other stuff.

Now, if soiréeing isn’t your thing, we got a new shop sponsor, and the guys are awesome. They just started up, and they’re super friendly, so if you’re in the area... STOP BY! The shop is ‘Street to Snow Clothing’ (those guys at the In Deep premiere with wicked prices). They’re at 3807 East Hastings Street (near Boundary), so just hop on the 135 bus and it’ll take you right there. Show your membership card and get an extra 10% off everything they have.

    Some more great news?

Whistler is OPENING SATURDAY! Yes, November 14th... Whistler will be opening. If you want to meet up with us to say hi, or ski with out, meet at the light-board outside the Roundhouse at 10:00 am. The light-board is the big giant board that has the lift status lights on it. It’s just out front the big lodge at the top of Big Red and Emerald.

Since Whistler is opening so soon, what better way to spend your time then tuning your own gear? We’ll be having two tuning nights. As of now, they will be November 24th, and December 1st. They’ll be from roughly 6:30 pm ‘til 9:00 pm. It’ll be in the clubs room, we’ll post directions later. The room isn’t that big, so don’t all show up at once.

Oh yeah... we have another soirée next week as well on Thursday. So keep Wednesday AND Thursday open.

See you all on Friday when you come and grab your tickets, and hopefully we’ll see you Saturday on the hill.

November 5, 2009

We talked with Bluehouse skis the other day, and they’re hooking up SFU in a BIG way. Bluehouse skis is an independent ski company out of Utah, and they have some wicked prices for all of you.

If you head their way and grab a pair of skis, let them know the SFU Ski and Snowboard club sent you, and give them your t-shirt size. They’ll be sending a free t-shirt along with your order.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail us... or them...
