[253] Assignment Zero over

Dear 253,

So nice to meet you yesterday. I suspect it won't be so crowded next week. If you want to relive the experience, you can visit eLive and listen to the lecture again! (https://www.elluminate.com/pmtg.jnlp?psid=d720276417.372957).

I now have about 85 or so submissions for Assignment Zero. The rest of you are probably flush with marks or anticipate perfect scores on the midterm and so can afford the five mark penalty for not doing the assignment. Brave of you, and I admire your willingness to risk a little in the academic life!

All the rest of you, congratulations. You now have a reply from me that you can print up and bring with you to the tutorial next week and get your "assignment zero" ticked off as being done. And, you can move on to Assignment 1 with a clear conscience and know you aren't starting the semester in a deficit.

For those of you who are interested, I have copied the text of the assignment below. Please note that it says nothing about submitting by WebCT (that's for assignments 1-4). It says nothing about word files - I received a number of messages with attachments. I prefer NOT to receive things like that. It asks for your name and SFUID - I received a few messages with just the SFUID, no name.

In this course, read the instructions carefully and follow them to the letter. If you find an ambiguity - we say one thing in one place, and another in another place - let us know. We're human, we make mistakes. We'll fix it. Right away.

As a reminder, here is the course web site: http://arago.cprost.sfu.ca/cmns253 - If you can't get into it, let me know and I will make an exception/allowance so you can get in right away, before the system catches up. I need your SFU Computing ID in order to do that.

Assignment Zero is a simple "scavenger hunt" type of assignment. To complete this assignment you have to send the instructor an e-mail that answers the following questions:

    * What is your name and SFUID?
    * Do you have (or have access to) a digital camera (or mobile phone) that can take video clips?
    * Do you use an instant messaging service (MSN, iChat, ICQ, etc), and if so which one? If you use more than one, which one do you use most often?
    * Do you have a blog or other personal web page (Blogger, MySpace?, Xanga, etc)?
    * Do you have a mobile phone, and if so, do you use text messaging regularly (more than once a week)?

Once you have sent that e-mail, print up a copy and bring it to your tutorial to confirm that it is completed.

Welcome to CMNS 253!
