[253] Compression tips

One group wasn't familiar with the "compression" process, so I pointed them to a couple of resources (these are also on the A4Uploading page):

* If you used Windows Movie Maker (one of the two suggested free tools), there is a great site with tutorials here: http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Tutorials/Index.aspx. The one you might be most interested in at this point is http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/PapaJohn/28/Sharing_Videos_Online.aspx. Lots of info on compression there.

* If you are using iMovie (the other recommended piece of software), there is a tutorial at apple's website on "exporting with expert settings" that does a pretty good job of laying out the options. There are many, many, possible options so play around with them (perhaps using a 30 second version of your project, so you don't spend too much time with each experiment) to see what has the best tradeoff between quality and size of the resulting file. Check it out here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=165258

Remember to put your file on this page: http://arago.cprost.sfu.ca/cmns253/course/wiki/A4Videos when you are done.

If you upload it to myspace or something like that, make sure it is visible to me (add me to your friend list or whatever), and that you put a link into the A4Videos page by editing that page, choosing the "upload file or image" option at the bottom of the page. Then send me an e-mail.
