Accommodation

Accommodation is arranged by the participants. A number of rooms have been blocked booked at the following hotels and are available on a first come, first served basis. After April 30/01, the rooms will be released to the general public.


• The least expensive accommodation is the SFU residence. We have booked 200 single rooms in McTaggart-Cowan Hall and 75 rooms in the Townhouse quads. All rooms in McTaggart-Cowan Hall have linens and towel sets, single beds and a small room refrigerator. There are common kitchens and shared washroom facilities within each section of the building ($25.00 / night + tax). The Townhouse quads provide a little more privacy. Each townhouse is fully furnished with 4 bedrooms, 2 washrooms living room and kitchen area. Room linens and towel sets are provided ($40.00/ night + tax). The cost of parking is $3.00 / day / vehicle + tax. Permits will be issued at time of check in. Guests staying on campus may check in after 11:00 a.m and should go directly to the main desk located in McTaggart-Cowan Hall. Desk hours are open until 12:00 midnight. Guests arriving after mid-night must first check in at the Security Office front desk. For more information on the SFU residences including photos, see the residence webpage. An obvious advantage of staying at SFU is the proximity to the sessions. As SFU is located on Burnaby mountain, disadvantages include restricted dining facilities and the lack of evening entertainment.
  
  
• We have booked 100 rooms at the Executive Inn Hotels and Suites Burnaby. The price is $119.00 per night plus taxes and includes a shuttle service to SFU (20 minute drive) at the beginning and the end of the day. The rooms contain a microwave, sink and full fridge. The Executive Inn Burnaby maintains a heated outdoor pool, lounge, restaurant and fitness centre, and is within walking distance of various restaurants and the Willingdon Mall. • We have booked 99 rooms at the Inn at Westminster Quay. The rates are $99, $109 and $119 plus taxes for singles, doubles and twins (double/double). The Inn is within walking distance of a number of restaurants and attractions including the Westminster Quay Public Market and the Riverboat Casino. The Inn has fitness facilities and complimentary in-room coffee. Access to SFU is via bus #147 or #148 to Lougheed Mall and then transferring to bus #145 to SFU. The total time ranges between 30 and 45 minutes by bus, and 20 minutes by car. The Inn is located at 900 Quayside Drive, New Westminster, BC V3M6G1 and can be booked by phoning 1-800-663-2001. • We have booked 40 rooms at the Best Western Coquitlam Inn. The rates are $89 and $119 plus taxes for singles and doubles respectively. The Best Western offers two restaurants on premises including the award winning Barrel Steak House, a 1300 square foot tropical courtyard, heated swimming pool and coffee makers in each room. Within walking distance is the Lougheed Mall and other restaurants. The Best Western, located at 319 North Road, Coquitlam, BC V3K3V8 is a 15 minute bus ride (#145) to SFU. • We have booked 50 rooms at the Executive Plaza Hotel Coquitlam. The rates are $89, $99 and $109 plus taxes for the deluxe guest room, corporate club room and superior suite respectively. All rooms are either single or double occupancy. The Executive Plaza Hotel Coquitlam offers spa facilities, two restaurants, a fitness room and complimentary in-room coffee.
