Safety and Risk Services leadership update

August 10, 2022

It is with mixed emotions that SFU Safety and Risk Services announces the retirement of Mark LaLonde, Chief Safety Officer as of September 2, 2022.

Mark has been Chief Safety Officer over the last six years with a long career dedicated to community safety. In his time at SFU, he has enhanced emergency preparedness plans, led business continuity planning during the COVID-19 pandemic and launched joint Student Safety and Employee Worker Safety Groups.

“I will miss working with colleagues who strive to enhance safety each day, I will miss the pride I feel daily working at Simon Fraser University, and I will miss watching convocation and the vivid reminder of what we are all here for.” – Mark LaLonde.

Jacqueline Toering, Senior Director, Enterprise Risk and Resilience will take over as the Interim Chief Safety Officer, effective September 3rd and competition for the new Chief Safety Officer will follow shortly after.

The Safety and Risk Services team wish Mark all the best on his next chapter and look forward to hearing about what new adventures await!
