Interpretation and Translation Program

Launching careers in cross-cultural communication

Over the past 25 years, hundreds of professional interpreters and translators have benefited from the practical and unconventional training in SFU’s Interpretation and Translation Program.

The Canadian government founded the program to train Chinese officials to work on Canadian International Development Agency projects in China. In 1993, we opened our doors to other Mandarin Chinese-speaking individuals, and six years later, we began welcoming native Japanese speakers.

Today, our programs and workshops are open to all qualified bilingual (Mandarin Chinese-English or Japanese-English) applicants who wish to pursue a career in translation and consecutive interpretation. In addition to providing in-depth linguistic and cultural training, we offer hands-on experience through interpreting trips to businesses and other organizations.
